Marine Ice-Eater

Eastern Marine offers several brands and capacity ranges of marine de-icers or Ice-Eaters that help prevent ice damage to docks and boats keep in the water during cold winter months.  This equipment is especially important in Northern climates, where frozen ponds, lakes or even tidal bays can become thick with ice in the colder weather.  If left unprotected, boat hulls and dock pilings can suffer serious damage from long exposure to the frozen water.

One popular model is the ICE EATER manufactured by Power House for marine de-icing. The Ice Eater is designed to prevent ice from forming around boats, marinas, docks, and piers as well as effectively melting existing ice by breaking the surface with a continuous current of warmer bottom water.  With a 25′ power cord that plugs into a standard 110v outlet, the Powerhouse propeller draws up warmer subsurface water and deflects it to the surface creating a constant circulation of warmer water that prevents ice formation and it also melts existing ice.

Another reliable series of De-Icers is available from N.A. Taylor Made Products.  The TAYLOR MADE brand Boat & Dock De-Icer Models include 1/2 hp, 3/4 hp and 1 hp motors with 50′ power cord. These ‘Oil Free’ electric motor marine de-icers keep the water surface area ice-free in varying surface diameters depending of horse power. The D-Icer is ideal for use around boats and docks, freshwater or saltwater.

Optional accessories include an outdoor temperature controlled thermostat turns on at 25° f and off at 35° f. Just plug in the D-Icer and have peace of mind the unit will only run when necessary. Standard 3-prong plug works will all 110 / 120 volt D-Icers.
