Stabilizing an RV for Added Comfort

There are many things that an RV’er can do to insure a comfortable stay in their travel destination lot location of choice. One cause for discomfort that can be easily controlled is providing for a stable and level arrangement for your “home away from home”. No one likes to sleep in an RV trailer that is 15 degrees off level or that shakes, vibrates or moves whenever any other member decides to move.

Some of the sources for instability are:

  • Tongue jack or a-frame jack not being level or not proper capacity. Use a forward jack that can handle the tongue weight of the trailer when it is leveled.
  • Wheels moving fore and aft: Use a device (chock and lock) that will lock the front and rear wheel together to prevent this movement.
  • Soft ground requires jacks with a foot- pad that will prevent sinking in soft ground. This jack should be solid and should not lean under weight.
  • Not stabilizing the trailer’s suspension. This can be easily contained by using the ubiquitous stacker or stabilizer jacks on the side or rear of the trailer.

Many of today’s RV stabilizing and leveling gear are available in a powered design. Which, of course is more expensive but obviously easier and faster to use. However, the less expensive manually operated gear can achieve the same results with a little more time and effort.

Eastern Marine Outlet carries a wide range of leveling and stabilizing gear for your RV trailer. Check out our full selection at EasternMarineOutlet – RV Stabilizers & Jacks
